SPIDERMAN

SPIDERMAN BIRTHDAY PARTIES!

I really can't begin to explain this first Spiderman party!  It was absolutely hysterically funny for me to be in that costume.  Completely different from Cinderella, I had just sweat and breath mint on under this facade.  I came in blaring a soundtrack version of the song, "Spiderman" and spraying Silly String all over the surprised guests, striking all of the Spiderman poses I could come up with.  I had a husky, low voice that almost sounded like a man with laryngitis.  I kept calling all of the boys, 'dudes'.  I have no idea why.  I had Cinderella's face painting case with me, so I came up with, "Yeah, Cinderella, she's a cool chick.  She taught me how to paint faces and let me borrow her paints...She's a good friend of mine."

This party was put on for a child from the neighborhood preschool, where my children attend.  The parents all know me and what I do, but when I came in trying to be a male superhero, the chuckles were obvious!  I could almost read their minds, thinking, there's only one lunatic in our neighborhood crazy enough to do this!

It's not for the faint-hearted child and maybe a surprise is not such a good idea in this case.  Some of the kids were scared of Spiderman and his(her) loud music... They do always come around for the face painting, but still...

One frequent flyer of Cinderella parties was there and noticing the case, told her mom, "Spiderman has Cinderella's paint case."  They don't miss a thing!  And, the older boys, say 8 and up, knew I was a woman.  They would talk to each other using 'she' when referring to me and what I was about to paint on them... Spiderman would say in his(her) husky voice, "Hey, dude, I'm a 'he' not a 'she', I'm Spiderman!"  But they laughed and kept on.  One 10-year-old said, "I know what your name is...Becca."  And, I said, "No, DUDE, I'm Spiderman!"  So, at least locally, I was busted... And, I'm off to fashion a Spiderman cover for my princess face painting case.

Really, I can't describe how funny it was for me and how hard it was to not laugh out loud like a girl the entire time.  Here's to trying something new!  You never know how much you will enjoy it!  Cheers!
